Economic recession... a global financial crisis... that is all what we have heard during the last one month. Salaries not growing, costs going up, jobs being cuts and mainly no new jobs being created… many business graduates are thinking about taking a MBA degree now but the question is, is it worthy? If you think about it, an MBA can cost you from USD 40.000 up to 100.000 (tuition fees, cost of life and other expenses). It is normally an investment that you can easily earn back in a few years, thinking that your expected salary doubles after an MBA from one of the best Business Schools (say 40 best in the Financial Times MBA ranking). However, for most MBA candidates this money is going from their own pocket, either a saving of hard work or a student loan with difficult terms.
So, after all, is it worthy to enroll to an MBA in these hard days of the global crises? (and just think about the ROI, return on investment, a simple way to calculate it). Personally – and now do not forget that my degree is in economics… - I think that the trend will go on: the economy still has a cycle: it is not a linear trend, there are always bad and good days, and after bad moments, good days will follow! It you think about, this was always the case! What does it mean for a business graduate? If you enroll now for an MBA, you will graduate in a 1 year time, which means that it will just in time for the economy to be on high again, looking for talented graduates with prestigious MBA degree!
